Lesson 1: Parts of a Whole

Imagine a pizza cut into 4 equal slices. One slice is 1/4 of the pizza. The numerator (top) counts selected pieces. The denominator (bottom) counts equal pieces in the whole.

Example: 3 of 8 equal chocolate pieces is 3/8.

Lesson 2: Comparing Fractions

When denominators match, compare numerators: 4/8 > 3/8. With equal numerators, smaller denominators mean larger pieces: 1/2 > 1/4.

Lesson 3: Fractions of Numbers

To find 2/3 of 12, divide 12 by 3 to get 4, then multiply by 2 to get 8.
